Chula Vista Bayfront Development Update

After years, in planning, the Chula Vista Bayfront Development Project has finally broken ground. If you haven’t heard, this is just the first phase of a huge project that will transform the Chula Vista Bayfront into a world class destination.

Currently, you can see the cranes and the construction taking place for the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center. When constructed, this will be Gaylord Hotels’ first West Coast location. With its nationally recognized brand, the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center is expected to spur other development on the 535-acre Chula Vista Bayfront. In development by RIDA Chula Vista, LLC in collaboration with the Port and City of Chula Vista, the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center will be the centerpiece and the catalyst project of the Chula Vista Bayfront. It will include up to 1,600 hotel rooms, a convention center with four ballrooms, three levels of meeting space and two outdoor meeting and event lawns; public promenades and public amenities; and associated retail and resort-level amenities such as a pool with a lazy river, a spa, and more.

Possibly the second major project on the Chula Vista Bayfront will be the Amara Bay by Pacifica condo development. The residential and commercial development will sit across the street from Gaylord Pacific to the south, and will include 33 acres of condominiums, commercial office, retail space, and a 250-room hotel. Located on the edge of the Chula Vista Bay Front Marina, the architecture borrows from the organic nature of the marina and wetland areas, creating a comfortable fit with the unique coastal scenery. Expressive detailing using natural materials, applied to major building components as well as human scale elements such as urban furniture and retail signage are a driving part of the design concept. Landscaping will be indigenous and drought resistant, and inspired by the rich California seaside environment. Besides, the commercial and retail components, this project will create 159 condo homes ranging from 900-3500 sq ft with top notch luxury amenities for owners to enjoy.

This will be huge for Chula Vista and The South Bay in general. With the beautiful weather, proximity to 2 major airports and the Tijuana Border Crossing, The Gaylord Resort will attract large conventions to the area. And all of the surrounding commercial, residential and nature projects will provide the support that such a massive hotel will need. Imagine Chula Vista with a world class west coast bayfront like San Diego, San Francisco or Seattle!

I envision the Chula Vista Bayfront Project will have a similar impact on local real estate as Petco Park did in Downtown or SOFI did in Inglewood. Surrounding areas will become more desirable as homebuyers and renters will want to be close to the action. Because of this, I am actively investing in West Chula Vista. If you would like to do the same, reach out to me!
